The REACH Centre
Initiative Launch, 28th June 2007
REACH, a new EU regulatory framework for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, is a major piece of legislation underpinning the way chemicals are manufactured, used and managed within industry. The REACH Regulation is substantial and complex and will prove to be demanding for companies to effectively interpret, adopt suitable management processes, and develop & manage information about the substances they use and produce.

Following extensive consultation with industry and key stakeholders, Lancaster University is pleased to announce the launch of 'The REACH Centre'. Under a commercial platform, 'The REACH Centre' is an initiative that will offer companies total support in the management and delivery of the many and varied requirements placed on them by REACH. Lancaster Environment Centre has a considerable international pedigree in environmental chemicals management. The initiative launch introduced the structure, expertise and services that are being provided by the 'REACH Centre'.

The Reach Centre initiative launch was held on the 28th June 2007 at Lancaster University and attended by a range of chemical industry stakeholders.

Professor Paul Wellings, the University Vice Chancellor, opened the event which continued with a number presentations from the REACH Centre and Lancaster University. The meeting was closed by Gary Titley, MEP, with a presentation on REACH and its context.

As the competent authority, Julian Delic from the HSE presented an overview of the legislation, what the HSE remit is in the context of REACH, and an independent view of the type of resources required for industry to manage REACH.
